Pests

Stoats: large number of stoats were taken from Britain in the 1870's and brought to New Zealand. They immediately spread into the bush and started killing native birds.

Cats: Captain James cook and whalers introduced cats in 1800's but they didn't become common in tall the 1830's. The  they didn't become common in tall the 1830's. The cats spread into the bush and joined rats and stoats. It took about 128 people almost 400 days to remove 100 cats from little Barrier island. 

Pigs: Pigs were introduced to New Zealand by early explore in the late 1700's wild pigs took up large areas of the forest floor. They feed on any forest berries and fruit.

  1. Wow, another reason Ava to not have a cat (apart from Mark's allergies). They gobble up all the native birds. Bad puddy cat.
